  • Our hazardous lifestyle......

As we have heard or read in newspapers and magazines that emergence of lifestyle diseases are becoming a major global diseases that is considered as the highest killer in 21st century. Numbers of populations becoming obese had increased and takes up more than 60% of the population.

Obesity has become a life threatening and is recognised as the major underlying factor for the emergence of other lifestyle diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, gout, stroke, arthritis, stress and hormonal imbalance

    Why do these changes occur?

Why does the disease that was thought occurred in elderly now stricken even as early as 20-30 years old?

Why cancer now diagnosed 1 in 4 person and diabetes 1 in 10 people and still increasing?

Here are some of the answers:-

Our lifestyles have change considerably as compared to our ancestor and so as the diseases related to the way we eat, drink as well as environmental and cosmetic exposures.

The ways we do our work also have changed from hard work with full sweats to non-sweating sedentary work. Even our children enjoy spending their time playing football or other games at home with computers or play station rather then sweating outside the house.

Under the name of development and technology advancement, our homes, vehicles and offices are equipped with air condition which makes our metabolic rate gone even lower. Therefore we do not burn what we have eaten.

Our food have also changed from original or natural, home grown and home prepared to processed food, genetically engineered with added chemicals (with preservatives, artificial seasonings and emulsifiers etc) and ready made from the counter. These chemicals are known as xenobiotic that may interfere with the hormone on the body.

Fast food had gained popularity since everybody is busy and do not have time to prepare their meal and eat out is faster and simple. Many working father and mother have eating out at restaurant or fast food outlet as their favorite place for dinner with children.

Occupational environment also contributed to certain extend amount of chemicals exposure during working especially for those who are not effectively protected from the industrial chemicals

"The primary cause of disease is in us, always in us."
    —Antoine Beauchamp, 1883
